Education and Training

Dr Petra Porter studied medicine at Monash University. She graduated with first class honours in December 1994. In her early years of medicine, Petra worked at The Alfred Hospital, Caulfield, Sunshine, Traralgon, Moe and The Mission Hospital in Ba, Fiji – as an undergraduate. She underwent clinical training at The Alfred Clinical School, Prahran. This gave her a strong interest in surgery. Then, Petra moved to Monash Medical Centre (MMC) to complete her specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology. During this time, she worked at MMC, Peninsula Health and Launceston General Hospital. Petra completed her training with senior registrar positions at Peninsula Health (Frankston and Rosebud Hospitals) and Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust, Taunton, United Kingdom in 2002. This awarded Petra with Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) in March 2003.
